Tirza Matter lives in Lucerne and is in the 4th semester of her art studies at the Academy of Design and Arts of Lucerne. She has been painting since she was 12, exclusively with oil, preferably large formats.
Lately she has been focussing on her self image, her own face and body, using photography as an important part of the creative process. After processing the digital image material, the translation into painting creates the final image.
She enjoys working using a photo-realistic style, but at the same time she breaks and re-creates again and again the connection to “reality” in her work.To her, the artistic moment is the creation of the work itself, these long hours of work in which she lets her image and her painting utensils take over. A finished painting on the gallery wall is basically what is left of this interaction.
